Vagabonds Hostel

Directly opposite a Gothic Church on University Road is the newly opened Hostel aptly named Vagabonds. It’s located in this restored Georgian House which incidentally is also next to Queen’s University.

It’s classed as, “an urban travellers hostel designed by two experienced travellers for like minded people”.

On the ground floor here is this first room. The setting is quite comfortable and recreates that authentic atmosphere of a relaxed hostel. Some of the original architectural elements have been restored therefore adding that little touch of old fashioned character.

Tara and Curt are the enthusiastic owners of Vagabonds. Their passion to make this a success comes from their own globetrotting experiences. Their last trip in India is where the ideas of making this dream come true began to ferment and take shape.

There are three floors in this building dating to the late 1800’s. A trip up the stairs reveals several rooms including this large 12 bed one. There are smaller more private quarters. The rooms are basic looking but do contain all the essentials for that short stay most students or backpackers usually require in any case.

On another floor are two computer terminals which are connected to the internet. More rooms here also offer great views over University Road with the usual traffic of students passing back and forth.

Back down on the ground floor is the dining room and kitchen which anyone is permitted to use. The whole kitchen was modernised so it lacks for nothing.

At the back here is a little surprise. A doorway leads out into a private courtyard – another sanctum where travellers can sit back, share stories, play games and if the weather really, really permits even enjoy a barbeque.
