La Camera del Lavoro

This official building of La Camera del Lavoro – which is a body of several unions in one – was founded on the 16th March 1893. Although it was created to provide a voice initially for farmers and then other industries joined later it’s not to be mistaken as some sort of communist movement. In fact, it suffered under the fascists at the beginning of the century forcing them underground in 1925 for a while. It was also situated in Via D'Azeglio before moving here.

The art work on the left and right side of the façade clearly illustrates it’s historic origins as stone figures represent farmers, labourers and animals all working together on the land.

Today though, it serves much broader commercial interests and has many thousands of members spread throughout Bologna and the province of Bologna.
