Oratorio San Filippo Neri

This main doorway to the ex-oratory of San Filippo Neri dates to the 1500s as it states on the architrave and belonged to the Hercolani family who once lived here. The interior though dates to 1733 and was the work of Alfonso Torreggiani.

Unfortunately it was damaged quite badly during WWII. This is still quite evident from the unfinished restoration work on the ceiling.

Other famous people connected to this place include P. Giambattista Melloni who taught here in the 1700s as part of the congregation and San Gaspare del Bufalo, founder of the Missionaries of the Holy Blood, who resided here in 1811.

The building belongs to the banking group Fondazione Del Monte who use it presently to hold conferences and private gatherings.

It was decorated with statues by Angelo Gabriello Pio, ornate stucco elements by Carlo Nessi and carvings by Antonio Cartolari. The painting above the altar illustrating St Philip, St Barbara and the Madonna was completed by Francesco Monti.
