Simon Bolivar Statue

Situated in Plaza Simón Bolivar between Calle de la Obrapia and Lamparilla, is this composed looking statue of Simón Bolivar, otherwise known as ‘The Liberator’. Inscribed on the pedestal are the two cities of Caracas 1783 and Santa Marta 1830, which he freed from the Spanish Empire and subsequently earning him hero status.

The bronze statue was completed by the artist Martin Toledo. There’s no date on it but by its appearance it was probably executed within the past two decades.
