Castello di Malatestiana was built in 1447 by the Malatesta family and includes a tower from 1386 erected by Carlo Malatesta. An impenetrable looking building with large rooms and some ghost stories mixed in for good measure.

Castle Malatestiana

This castle named after the Malatesta family was built by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta in 1447 and actually includes the construction of another tower in 1386 by his predecessor Carlo Malatesta who as recorded by Cesare Clementini in 1600, had wanted to build a tower which would be admired throughout Italy.

The large rooms inside have been well preserved so much so, that local ghost stories recall visitors having heard voices and noises calling out from the past. One thing for sure is that the actors dressed up in the castle will at least help with anyone trying to imagine what it may really have been like in those days. It’s not quite as big as it seems since a walk around the perimeter will only takes a few minutes.

The vista though is incredible and probably even more so from the windows of the castle itself. Opening days are limited to the first weekend of the month.
