A new fast-food snack bar that brings the traditional ‘tigelleria’ from the Apennine mountains to Bologna. This mini snack bar was founded in 2009 and is now hoping to develop much further afield. It appeals to a new and more mobile generation who eat-on-the-go with a menu from the classical right through to vegetarian and even gourmet choices.

The Rock Bar was built in 1903 by the O’Neill family. Italian stonemasons on strike at Belfast City Hall were hired to construct the façade with beautiful capitals of comical faces. Inside is equally adorned with artistic skill and cosy, little cubicles. In the past men were hired here to carry coffins for a few pints as their reward.

There’s many forms of celtic symbolism and Irish culture lurking around the pub such as art work, furniture, musical instruments and working tools.

La Vecia Cantena d’la Prè, an enoteca established 1976, is run by Barbara Lucchi and husband Riccardo Menghi. Located in the medieval village of Predappio Alta, this renowned enoteca hides an even greater piece of history in its cellars. Sangiovese wine making started here in the 14th century. A museum in the cellars reveals a little of this past.

The South Belfast Northern Ireland Supporters Club was founded in the Albion Bar. This building was opened by Mr Roy Dickson in 2002. Meetings took place upstairs for a few years then with planning permission they enlarged the premises. Paintings, photos, signed shirts and even the odd player can be seen here.

A Bolognese café bar with a good reputation. It displays many portraits on its walls of past and present clients by the artist Paolo Roversi. Established in 1913 but present owners took control in 1990. Exhibitions are also staged in the back. The aperitivo is well received especially washed down with one of the many famous wines they stock.

A small but cosy osteria in Via Marsala. It sits 120 outside and more inside. Previously a ‘latteria’ but now a trend setting café/bar that also belongs to the KMØ movement. The atmosphere can switch quite dramatically depending on the evening and as such promises to be entertaining regardless. Marsalino is also very central to Bologna.

Established since 1993, this became the first Irish Pub in Bologna. It’s also the only one to have a darts room that host competitions and have their own team in full accordance with the FIGF. There are cubicles for smaller, private groups and most of the furnishings and items on display recall typical Irish traditions.
