Built 1870-1880 by A.Cipolla it boasts one of Bologna’s most beautifully decorated porticoes by Gaetano Lodi 1862-1865. The paintings reflect a figurative neo-renaissance art as a result of national unity that swept the country. Students from‘Accademia delle Belle Arti’ were sent here to study about their own culture and history.

A senatorial palazzo designed by Alfonso Torreggiani in the 1700s. Main characteristics include an orante staircase by Gian Giacomo Dotti with stuccos by Antonio Schiassi; rooms decorated with large canvases by Vincenzo Martinelli and Petronio Fancelli, tempera paintings by Giovanni Antonio Bettini and Monchino; a Trompe-l’œil by Pietro Fabbri.

Huge statue of Icaro or Icarus in English adorns the entrance to the ex-School of Aeronautics beside Piazzale della Vittoria. It was created by F.S Palozzi and probably was set here around the same time as the school was built in the mid 1930s. Graffiti is plastered all over it since the building is a school and university campus now.

Created by Leonardo Bistolfi in Carrara marble in Liberty style. Located next to Carducci’s house, this grand piece of art depicts works of the poet and patriotic symbolism. A giant triptych stands high above Piazza Carducci making it a magnificent sight and a great gesture in his honour.

Located in Thanksgiving Square is the Statue of Harmony by Scottish artist Andy Scott. It was paid for by a cross-community group and unveiled in 2005. The female figure represents allegorical themes taken from Classical and Celtic mythology.

Maritime buoys in the centre of Cathedral Gardens were a gift from the Commissioner of Irish Lights. They celebrate Belfast’s history with being a sea port and ship building. The park was opened on the 21st of November 1983 by Councillor A Cairns JP and Lord Mayor Councillor Alfred Ferguson.
