Christian Brothers’ School

Opened in 1962 Christian Brothers’ School or CBS, was developed to educate underprivileged children. It only taught pupils for 5 years until Gerry Scannel incorporated a Sixth Form into the curriculum. With recent exam results and awards for excellence under Tom Armstrong the school’s reputation has risen sharply with even better times ahead.

Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna

Designed by Carlo Francesco Dotti on the request of Pope Benedict XIV, the Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna was opened in 1756. It contains a huge collection of rare books and manuscripts from the 16th century. Displayed around the complex are valuable paintings and sculptures. The Aula Magna and various museum rooms are equally impressive.

Biblioteca Civica Gambalunga

Italy’s first Civic Library. Biblioteca Civica was built by Gambalunga but designed by Giovanni Laurentini Arigoni 1610-1614. It boasts significant and valuable collections of books, manuscripts, parchments, paintings, furnishings in four rooms dating to the 1600’s. Notable people here include Cardinal Giuseppe Garampi, Luigi and Carlo Tonini.

The British Schools Museum

British School Museum records the early development of education in Hitchin when William Wilshere introduced the Monitorial System in 1810. Buildings represent different periods of learning while many exhibits on display really provide an in depth look at the old fashioned props used by both teachers and pupils. Rooms have been carefully restored.

ARCA Bologna

A school for learning Italian right next to the centre of Bologna and its most famous landmarks. Students come from all over to attend this school with many diverse and interesting courses on offer. It’s on two floors in a 16th century building equipped with modern facilities and helpful staff.

Serendipita

A small bookstore that specialises in Afro-African languages. It stocks a great variety and diverse range of material and texts, and offers translations services too. They also arrange conferences, events, reviews, literature readings and workshops. There are rooms with modern facilities for private research and study.
