Casa Conoscenti

A 13th century building illustrating a rare example of a privately owned house with a portico constructed from selenite rock and with ogival characteristics. There’s also clear evidence of one of Bologna’s first examples of its ancient defence walls. The house belonged to Alberto Conoscenti.

Footage of an abandoned kiln and hydro-electrical plant. The Navile Canal passes through here which was central to industrial uses here in the late 1900s. A few deaths were also recorded here in recent years as it was visited by homeless people. Long term plans will transform this area into social and cultural facilities.

In 1904 electric trams began to operate in Bologna. They would complete their journey in this area outside of the city which is now the seat for local council offices. Plaques on the building are dedicated to those who died during service or in war. Also includes a permanent exhibition by Alcide Fontanesi nearby the original tracks.

The House of Cesare Battisti

External footage only. A building in ruins which would have been a magnificent building in its day as can still be seen from its large and sturdy shape. The patriot and martyr Battisti was born here.

Napoleonic Forts

Seemingly off the beaten track – really the old street of Marocchi. These old ruins which were defensive buildings built by the Austrian army (1802-1805), are a little disappointing because there’s not much to see. The beautiful scenery though does make up for it.

The Bohill Mystery
Wednesday, June 7th, 2006
Mystery and intrigued is written all over this plot of land. The Bohill near Dundrod contains an unexplained series of visual signs nobody seems to know for sure what they mean. An underground bunker/tunnel, twin set of trees in a circle, large stones clumped together, but to top it off a giant cross permanently engraved in the ground.

Salmon Weir & River Walkway

For a truly picturesque view of the River Corrib try this route. It has only a length of four miles from the Lough to the sea, and is said to be the shortest in Europe as well as being the most powerful. It’s popular with local whitewater kayakers. Legend traces its name back to a Fir Bolg chieftain and the sad end for his daughter.
