For a while ‘AR’ was a little confusing to say the least but now I realise it stands for Augmented Reality. This article a few months ago from Thenextweb.com explains it very well indeed. Basically though, its a combination of the vritual world with the real one. In fact, as long ago as last year we’ve even been in touch with a German firm called Twinity who develop virtual worlds of real cities. The reason for our contact is becuase I’ve always believed that the virtual and real worlds will eventually morph into one anyway. We proposed that Twinity therefore could potentially explore the use of iGuidez video guides in their virtual world.
Many moons ago when Sim City hit our Amiga Computer screens this was a serious departure from just normal shootem-up games and the popular Pac-Man. Sim City on the otherhand introduced that single notion albeit in caveman rhetoric – another world to simulate our own existence.
We’re told anyway that yesterday the military were using this magic formula but today with the advancement of mobile networks and phones we’re probably on the cusp of seeing this hit our tiny hand held screens. So, imagine this from our perspecitve then: watching a video of a museum and then being able to interact with that video such as using a touch screen to click on a painting hanging on the wall and retrieving relevant information from it such as the artist’s name, the when, how, why, where and what about this art work. Another option of course would include links to similar geographical places where the artist worked, lived or exhibited his/her art. Actually, don’t strain to hard becuase this is not as far away as you might otherwise believe.
GEO based partnerships are vital in this ingredient and will make this happen much easier and quicker than we can wait for. Companies like SuperWise Technologies and GEO Vector are amassing the know-how so the next obvious step is to add a pinch of video, sprinkle in some researched facts and figures and voila: AR ready to go. At iGuidez we are certainly helping to make this little dream come true and with a bit of luck ourselves a future tie-up with one of these companies could well be on the cards. In the meantime, keep dreaming, but not too much.
