We’ve just uploaded a video of iGuidez.com on an iPhone. The quality is not the best but the message it presents is astonishing. It’s the first time we’ve really put it through the mill and the results are surprisingly good. What this has really proven now is that traditional travel guides are dead in the water – well, may be not today but definitely tomorrow. As Jackie from Flapjac puts it: "The web is changing static text and photo only sites are going to wither and die, its just that all the others haven’t cottoned on to it just yet!" And these people should know since they are on the cutting edge of digital technology.
Our little experiment shows users now that when you travel to a city we can squeeze more information about the whole city than any guides or web sites have ever done before through video, photos and text. Furthermore, we are able to show this in a simple, easy to navigate system. Just have a look at the video and see for yourself. For the present moment though the videos don’t work. This is simply because Apple will not permit Flash based technology on their iPhones but this will change any day now as Adobe Flash has surpassed 1 billion downloads and more and more users are calling for its introduction.
Our next step is to improve our online presence in video guides then we hope to begin improving the quality of the user experience. For this, services like Flapjac will be essential and will truly take iGuidez video guides to even greater heights. The future is digital.
