Havana videoguides - Plaza del Revolucion
Renamed Plaza del Revolucion in 1959. At 72,000 square meters, it’s one of the world’s largest squares. A statue of Jose Marti by Juan Jose Sicre dominates the monument. Opposite is an image of Che Guevara on the Ministry of the Interior building. Those involved in the project: Enrique Luis Varela, Raoul Otero, Jean Labatut and Juan B Pujol.
Completed in 1920 this former Presidential Palace is now the Museo de la Revolucion (Museum of the Revolution). Made of white stone from Capellania and Carrara marble, it cost 1.5m pesos. Exhibits include weapons, propaganda, photos, paintings and sculptures by Armando G Menocal, Antonio Rodriguez Morey, Esteban Valderrama, Mariano Miguel Gonzalez.
