About Shankill Memorial Gardens
The Shankill Memorial Garden is a tribute to those men and women from this area who died during WWI and WWII and any subsequent conflicts thereafter. The raised perimeter around the seasonal flower beds also has an area for reflection.
The granite boulder at the far end is the main decorative element and the inscription on it merely reiterates the dedication to more than 800 people who died in the two world wars.
This recent memorial in another corner along with a Victorian lamp beside it is dedicated to the victims of the Shankill Bombing. On 23rd October 1993, the IRA detonated a bomb in Frizzell’s Fish Shop that resulted in the deaths of 10 civilians.
