About The Big Fish
On the edge of the Donegall Quay is this artwork by John Kindness and aptly named The Big Fish. Measuring 10m long and made from printed ceramic mosaic, this Salmon was unveiled in 1999 having been commissioned to celebrate the regeneration of the River Lagan. The project was paid for by Laganside and the National Lottery. The decoration on its outer skin illustrates texts and images of Belfast’s history. The Ulster Museum and several local primary schools provided inspiration for the images. The Big Fish also has hidden inside it a times capsule with more information and images on the city.
