About Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument
This grand monument made from bronze shows Giuseppe Garibaldi riding his horse. It used to be pride of place in Piazza Maggiore but was moved here in Via Indipendenza shortly after the war.
A tablet at the bottom of the monument records Garibaldi’s memory.
The Florentine sculptor Arnaldo Zacchi was responsible for executing this work of art of a post-unity hero attributed as one of Italy’s most famous patriots. Garibaldi’s deputy Andrea Costa led the inauguration celebration on the 8th July 1900 in front of a crowd of Socialists.
Inscribed along the top of the pedestal are some of the places in which Garibaldi fought and inspired others on to freedom, such as in Montevideo, Varese, Bezzeca, Dicione to name but a few.
