Bologna Nu Lounge Bar
About Nu Lounge Bar
Situated in the heart of Bologna’s historic quarter, next to Piazza Maggiore, is one of the city’s most recognized cocktail bars: Nu Lounge. Established since 2002 under the expertise of Daniele Dalla Pola and his two associates Davide and Maurizio, this place has grown in reputation and stature as one of most successful and enterprising bars in town.
The experience here may be compared to the equivalent in fashion circles of the catwalk, as its popular with up market locals or ‘fashionistas’ as they have also been referred to. For this reason too, many tourists flock here to catch a little bit of the star-dust that seems to permeate this place. When researching his novel ‘The Broker’, which was set in Bologna, John Grisham was said to have spent some time here.
Cocktails here are not only the main attraction but rather a cultural phenomenon since at Nu Lounge they seek to perfect the service of creating and drawing inspiration from the art of making cocktails. As a consequence, Daniele led an Italian team of baristas on to win the 2011 Cocktail World Championship in New Zealand.
The eclectic décor inside the bar is relaxing while at the same time inquisitive as it appears to be a work-in-progress. In fact, paintings on exhibit are changed frequently, whereas, the many colourful bottles, menu posters, famous recipes, sweet jars and general paraphernalia on display make up the essential tools of their trade.
The more popular ones include the Caribbean’s celebrated piña colada and tiki cocktails whose inspirations hail from Polynesia. Though with an exhausting list on offer a lack of imagination is the only thing that will hold anyone back.
