About Serendipita

Serendipita is a little bookshop but a very unique one in Bologna. It was founded in February 2007 with the intention of promoting African and Asian cultures in the Italian language. For this reason then, they are the only Bolognese bookstore who stock such a variety and diverse range of written material in these foreign languages. They often publish them in bilingual texts, edit and promote them across Europe.

However, Serendipita is not merely a bookshop. They also organise conferences, events, reviews, literature readings and workshops. In fact, hanging or placed around the shop are mementos and evidence of recent activities such as art work, local graffiti and poetry exhibits.

They have developed a close knit community based on their Afro-Asian interests. Particularly strong at the moment is the increase in the Chinese presence around Bologna now for which Serendipita is following with much enthusiasm.

Translations for material from the original languages into Italian and vice-versa are provided for here for which the local Chinese population is a very rich source of assistance in this regard.

Downstairs are another two rooms where the bigger functions are usually hosted although, they are also for private research and studying.

Apart from when events are planned here this can be a very quiet place to work. The internet is of course available as well as other modern facilities.
