Bologna The Orthodontic Clinic Collection
About The Orthodontic Clinic Collection
The external porticoes here of this building were erected in 1679, meanwhile an inner courtyard was actually erected in the 1500s. Along the corridor is this room called the Aula Magna. It was dedicated to the memory of Attilio Branzi on 15th of May 2003. He was a professor of orthodentistry often teaching in this lecture hall.
From the 1500s until the 1800s this was the seat for the women’s only college called St Martha’s Conservatory or St Martha’s College. It was actually a church and conservatory for unmarried Bolognese women of civil status. The institution dated back to 1504 and when it formally closed in 1808 the women moved to Strada Maggiore to the former monastery of the Vallombrosane.
Further along the hall is this curving stair case, quite harmonious with its setting. Two floors up is a loose dentistry collection that in the past was established a bit more formally than it is here today. The collection is comprised of wax models, impressions, instruments and quite a few false teeth. It was established in 1975 with some of the exhibits being donated by external surgeries.
This school of dentistry was only set up since 1918. Nowadays of course private patients are treated here and have quite a few choices since this houses many surgeries.
A lot of medical research is also carried out here on behalf of the University of Bolgona.
