About Ugo Bassi Statue

Along Via Ugo Bassi and on the corner of Via Sauro is this statue dedicated to Ugo Bassi, a famous preacher who joined the Barnibite Order at the age of 18.

This statue was completed by the sculpture Carlo Parmeggiani and is thought to date to the mid 1800s although it may not have always been placed here since another company called D.Venturi & F placed it here in 1900.

At the back of the pedestal is another dedication to Giovanni Livraghi, known also as Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Capitan. He was shot alongside Ugo Bassi on the 8th of August 1849 not very far from here on trumped-up charges of treason.
