Bologna Via Marconi

Recent road works between Via di Reno and Via delle Lame uncovered relics of the ‘Tramvie di Bologna.’ In 1904 trams were busy running along the rail tracks now commissioned for the rubbish tip. An old cobbled stone street was also briefly unearthed before tarmac was rolled over it once again.

About Via Marconi

This street, named after the famous inventor Guglielmo Marconi, was recently dug up mid way between Via di Reno and Via delle Lame.

These rail tracks are old relics taken up from under a layer of tarmac and cobble stones. They reveal a historic part of Bologna long forgotten about. From 1904, this city introduced the ‘Tramvie di Bologna,’ an electric tram system. This street would have served one of the busiest routes with the trams ending in Via di Saliceto.
